St. John Lutheran Church announced today that its beloved Ocala Christmas Light Spectacular, hosted at the Florida Horse Park, will not return for future seasons. The annual event, which drew more than 10,000 vehicles each year during its three-year run, has officially retired due to circumstances beyond the organization’s control.
The light show had become a cherished holiday tradition, attracting visitors from nearly every state who experienced the spectacular display in various ways – from families in pajamas to couples on horseback, and even pet owners bringing along their dogs, cats, and even lizards.
“We cherish the memories and the ministry moments that we have shared with all of you,” stated church officials in their farewell announcement. The event wasn’t just about the lights – it became a backdrop for numerous special moments, including engagements and weddings over its three-year history.
The spectacular was made possible through collaboration with several key partners, including Premier Inflatables LLC, Holiday Outdoor Decor, Florida Express Environmental, and Tree Wise Men. Jason Reynolds and the Florida Horse Park staff were credited as instrumental supporters, with the church noting that “without you, there would never have been a light show.”
The event featured an impressive array of entertainment beyond the light display, including appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus, Elsa, food trucks, and bouncing activities. Visitors came by various means of transportation – cars, trucks, hayrides, motorcycles, and even on horseback – creating a unique blend of traditional holiday celebration with local Florida charm.
St. John Lutheran Church and School, which has been serving the Ocala/Marion County community for over 50 years, used the event as an extension of their ministry while creating lasting memories for thousands of families. The light show represented their commitment to community engagement and spreading holiday cheer throughout the region.
While the announcement marks the end of this particular holiday tradition, the impact of the Ocala Christmas Light Spectacular will be remembered by the thousands of families who made it part of their annual Christmas celebration over the past three years.
