Runners are gearing up for the Twilight Trail Trot, a unique 5.5ish mile trail race that winds through the renowned Santos mountain bike trails under the fading daylight. Held on Wednesday, May 29th, the race follows the third round of the Hump Day Hustle, a four-week mountain bike race series that has been showcasing the trails’ versatility.
The Santos trails, managed by the Ocala Mountain Bike Association, offer over 80 miles of diverse single-track, catering to all skill levels. The Twilight Trail Trot course utilizes a mix of these trails, promising a challenging yet rewarding experience for participants.
Last year’s inaugural event saw Adam Truesdale and Riley Carter clinch the men’s and women’s titles with times of 39:49 and 49:02 respectively. Their performances set a high bar for this year’s competitors, adding an extra layer of excitement to the race.
As the sun sets, runners will rely on headlamps to navigate the twists and turns of the trail, creating a unique atmosphere distinct from typical daytime races. The event not only challenges participants’ athleticism but also fosters camaraderie among trail running enthusiasts.
The Twilight Trail Trot represents a celebration of the Santos trails’ multifaceted nature, showcasing their suitability for both mountain biking and trail running. It also serves as a testament to the thriving community of outdoor enthusiasts in the Ocala area.
