River Smith of the Ocala Distance Project won the K-2 boys 1,000 meters at the FLYRA state cross country championships in Lakeland on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, in 3:50.4, the same time as the runner-up. On Saturday, Belleview Middle School finished 19th of 30 teams in the public school girls 3K, led by seventh grader Reese McGovern in 19th place.

Crashes killed 81 people on Marion County public roads in 2025, down from 113 in 2024 and the lowest total in the five years covered by the Ocala Marion TPO's 2026 Commitment to Zero Safety Report.
