A Railroad Museum and Outreach Farm West of Ocala
Kirby Family Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization and museum at 19650 NE 30th Street in Williston, in rural Levy County west of Ocala. In 2011 founders Daryl and Tracy Kirby bought 110 acres to build it, and the farm received its 501(c)(3) status on June 23, 2014.
The centerpiece is a locomotive dating to the late 1800s that the Kirbys rescued and volunteers restored; it now gives rides to thousands of children and guests each year. The farm uses its railroad, history, agriculture, industry and science exhibits to teach children, with a special focus on foster, at-risk, special-needs and terminally ill children, who visit through hospitals, schools, foster organizations and others.
The public mostly knows the farm through its themed events, especially the ScaryTrain in October and the Christmas train. Those events thank supporters and raise money for the outreach work.
