About the Ocala Skate Park
The Ocala Skate Park sits on a 6-acre property at 517 NE Ninth Street, adjacent to Tuscawilla Park on the northeast side of downtown Ocala. The park is a project of the City of Ocala Recreation and Parks Department, built to give skateboarders, inline skaters, and freestyle BMX riders a dedicated, well-designed facility.
Phase 1 broke ground on December 12, 2018 and opened on May 18, 2019. Built by Team Pain Skate Parks, an award-winning skatepark construction company, the original park consisted of 10,000 square feet of concrete street course elements. The $410,000 Phase 1 was always intended as the first stage of a larger multi-phase project.
Phase 2 was approved by Ocala City Council on March 4, 2025, with a contract awarded to Platform Group, LLC. Catalyst Design Group created the initial design renderings. Construction began with a groundbreaking on August 28, 2025. The nearly $1 million expansion adds over 6,000 square feet of new terrain, bringing the park's total skateable surface to over 16,000 square feet.
The design philosophy emphasizes a “progression path” where skaters can advance through different difficulty levels. Platform Group noted that Ocala has a heritage of producing professional vert skaters, which influenced the decision to include a competition-sized bowl with true vertical walls.
Phase 2 Expansion Features
Competition Bowl
A full-sized competition bowl with true vertical walls, designed for advanced skaters. This is the park's centerpiece feature and puts Ocala on the map for vert skating.
Medium Transition Bowl
An intermediate-level transition bowl that bridges the gap between beginner terrain and the competition bowl. Ideal for developing vert skills.
Beginner Street Course
Progressive street-style elements including banks, ledges, quarter-pipes, and rails. Designed for new skaters learning foundational techniques.
Snake Run
A curved, flowing feature that works for all skill levels. Snake runs are popular for their speed and rhythm, making them fun for beginners and experienced skaters alike.

Rodney Mullen at the Grand Reopening
Skateboarding legend Rodney Mullen is the featured celebrity guest at the Ocala Skate Park's Phase 2 grand reopening on March 28, 2026. Widely regarded as the “Godfather of Street Skateboarding,” Mullen invented the kickflip, heelflip, 360 flip, and many other foundational street skating tricks that define modern skateboarding. He is a Skateboarding Hall of Fame inductee.
Mullen grew up in Gainesville, Florida — about 40 miles north of Ocala in neighboring Alachua County — making this event something of a homecoming. He attended the University of Florida studying chemical engineering before leaving to co-found World Industries, one of the most influential skateboard companies of the 1990s.
Grand Reopening Schedule — March 28, 2026
- •11:00 AM – 4:00 PM: Ribbon cutting, skateboarding trick competitions, prizes, food trucks, and live music at the skate park

The grand reopening is free, open to the public, and hosted by Ocala Recreation and Parks in partnership with The Boardr, a skateboarding event and media company. To be clear: Mullen did not design the skatepark — he is attending as the celebrity guest to celebrate the expansion.
