The Ocala Distance Project begins its Summer Track & Speed Work season with a focus on aerobic base building and running mechanics. Led by coach Darrin DeTorres, these sessions help runners adapt to the summer heat through controlled pacing and structured workouts. The workout features short interval repeats, such as 200-meter and 400-meter strides, aimed at developing running economy and raw speed.
These weekly community workouts are open to runners of all experience levels, from high school cross-country athletes to beginners looking to improve personal fitness. Coach DeTorres emphasizes the importance of proper hydration during the early summer humidity, recommending extra electrolyte intake. Participants meet at the Forest High School track, should bring a personal water bottle, and are encouraged to arrive early to join the group warmup. This specific track run event is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the Forest High School track.
