In August, the Ocala Distance Project shifts focus toward speed endurance and cardiovascular power, adapting workouts for the approaching autumn racing season. Coach Darrin DeTorres leads the group workouts. The workout features descending intervals (e.g., 1000m, 800m, 600m, 400m) with progressively faster paces.
These weekly community workouts are open to runners of all experience levels, from high school cross-country athletes to beginners looking to improve personal fitness. Coach DeTorres demonstrates post-workout dynamic stretches that target the hamstrings and hip flexors to improve flexibility. Participants meet at the Forest High School track, should bring a personal water bottle, and are encouraged to arrive early to join the group warmup. This specific track run event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at the Forest High School track.
