The 4th Annual Mother's Day 5K Run/Walk brought together 305 participants on a morning with overcast skies perfect for running. The event, organized by Radical Runs and owner Darrin DeTorres, celebrated mothers through fitness while showcasing the impressive talent of local young runners.

Race Winners

Overall Male Winner: Asher Inman, an 8th-grade student who trains with the Ocala Distance Project, claimed victory with an impressive time of 18:09. His performance highlighted the strength of the local youth running program.

Overall Female Winner: Susan Morelilo from Newbury, Florida, dominated the women's field with a time of 21:57, earning the distinction of being both the fastest female and the fastest mother in the race.

Event Highlights

Participants received commemorative soft, natural-colored t-shirts featuring a touching mother and cub bear logo design. Finisher medals matched the t-shirt theme, creating a cohesive and meaningful keepsake for all who crossed the finish line.

Post-race festivities included complimentary coffee provided by Calles De Oro Coffee, allowing participants and their families to celebrate their achievements while enjoying local refreshments.

Race photographer Julie Mancini captured the morning's special moments, documenting the joy and determination of runners celebrating Mother's Day through fitness.

Community Response and Safety

The race demonstrated the strength of Ocala's community spirit, with race director Darrin DeTorres expressing his enthusiasm: "We're thrilled with the turnout... celebrating Mother's Day through fitness."

The event also showcased the preparedness of local emergency services when a medical emergency occurred during the race. The Ocala Police Department received particular praise for their swift and professional response, ensuring participant safety remained the top priority.

Weather Conditions

The overcast skies provided ideal running conditions, keeping temperatures comfortable throughout the morning and allowing participants to perform at their best without the typical Florida heat and humidity.

Looking Forward

The success of this year's event, with its 305 participants and smooth execution, continues to establish the Mother's Day 5K as a beloved tradition in Marion County's running calendar.
