Is the Ocala Drive-In Closing? The Land Is Listed for Sale, but the Theater Is Still Showing Movies

The 11.6-acre Ocala Drive-In property at 4850 S Pine Ave is listed for sale at $1,799,900, but the theater's own website still posts nightly double features on both screens. Is the Ocala Drive-In Closing?
Nothing the theater has published says so. When this article was checked on Oct. 21, the drive-in's homepage listed four films: Street Fighter at 7:30 p.m. followed by Heart of the Beast at 9:45 p.m., and Whalefall at 7:30 p.m. followed by Digger at 9:30 p.m. The Coming Soon page, which shows the same four titles, dates that program from Friday, Oct. 16, through Thursday, Oct. 22, and repeats the theater's standing terms: "OPEN 7 NIGHTS A WEEK, Rain or Shine."
The theater's website also promotes a new self-serve dog wash on the property, which its graphic says is open 9 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week. The theater says its Facebook page is the best place to follow drive-in news. That page could not be viewed without signing in when this article was checked, so any statement the operator has posted there is not reflected here.
What Does the Real Estate Listing Say?
The Showcase.com listing, published on the CoStar network, describes the site as commercial land "located strategically between Ocala and Belleview" with more than 920 feet of frontage on US 441 and an average of 30,000 vehicles a day. It lists the property name as Ocala Drive In, the land as 11.6 acres and the zoning as B-4 (Regional Business), and gives the price as $1,799,900, or about $155,164 an acre.
The listing markets the land for redevelopment. It names possible uses allowed under the zoning, including a storage facility, warehouse, retail or shopping center, apartments or a mixed-use project, and lists existing features: public water and sewer, a private well, chain-link perimeter fencing, an owner's suite apartment, several pole barns, a drainage retention area (DRA) already in place, multiple driveways and a median crossover on US 441. It does not say when the property was listed, does not name a buyer and does not say what would happen to the theater.
Does a Listing Mean the Drive-In Will Close?
No. A listing means the owner is offering the land for sale. It is not a sale, a closing notice or a development application. No buyer or contract is named in the listing, and the theater has posted no closing date. If the property sells, any change in use would be up to the new owner. For now, the theater's own schedule is the best guide to whether it is open on a given night.
How Do I Check If the Drive-In Is Open Tonight?
The theater posts each week's films on its website. According to its FAQ page, gates are scheduled to open one hour before the movie and may open earlier on busy nights, tickets are sold only at the gate, the box office and snack bar take cash or cards, and each vehicle buys a concession voucher ($5 with one person, $10 with two or more) that is spent like cash at the snack bar. A ticket is good for one screen only.
