Salt Springs Recreation Area
Salt Springs Recreation Area is a natural spring and campground located in the Ocala National Forest in eastern Marion County. The spring produces approximately 53 million gallons of water per day and maintains a year-round temperature of 74 degrees, making it a popular swimming destination for Ocala-area residents and visitors.
The recreation area features a large spring-fed swimming area surrounded by a sandy beach, a campground with full hookups for RVs and tent sites, hiking trails, a boat ramp providing access to Lake George and the St. Johns River system, and a camp store. The mineral-rich spring water gives Salt Springs its distinctive name and character.
Salt Springs is managed by the U.S. Forest Service as part of the Ocala National Forest. Day-use visitors pay a small entrance fee, and camping reservations can be made through Recreation.gov. The area is popular for swimming, snorkeling, camping, fishing, boating, and wildlife observation. The Salt Springs Trail connects to the Florida Trail for extended hiking opportunities.
