OBS October Yearling Sale 2026: 378 Yearlings Head to Auction in Ocala Oct. 6-7

Ocala Breeders' Sales (OBS) holds its last yearling auction of 2026 next month in Ocala. The OBS October Yearling Sale runs Tuesday and Wednesday, October 6 and 7, at the OBS sales pavilion, 1701 SW 60th Avenue. Sessions start at noon Eastern each day, and 378 yearlings are cataloged. The sale comes a year after the 2025 edition posted a 27% jump in gross sales, and three weeks after an OBS graduate won a $1 million Grade 1 race.

Supplemental entries closed September 25. The catalog is posted at obssales.com. The sale streams live on the OBS website and on DRF, TDN, BloodHorse and Pastthewire, and buyers can bid online through OBS.

What's in the Catalog

According to OBS, the catalog includes yearlings by established sires such as Authentic, Blame, Charlatan, Hard Spun and Munnings. It also has first-crop yearlings by Jack Christopher, Jackie's Warrior, Mage, Mandaloun and Speaker's Corner. Mage won the 2023 Kentucky Derby.

The catalog cover features Bentornato, an OBS October graduate who won the 2025 Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1). Consignors point to wins like that when they tell buyers a modestly priced October yearling can still turn into a top horse.

How the 2025 Sale Did

The 2025 October Yearling Sale sold 309 horses for $7,267,700, including private sales, according to BloodHorse. That was up 27% from $5,724,600 in 2024, when Hurricane Milton forced OBS to reschedule the sale at the last minute. Florida-breds did especially well. The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association reported that their average rose 16% to $20,618 and their median rose 16% to $11,000. Their RNA (not sold) rate was 18%, compared with 26% for the sale overall.

An OBS Graduate Just Won a $1 Million Race

OBS enters the sale with a big result from September 19. The Puma won the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at Parx Racing by a half-length over Further Ado, another OBS graduate. The Puma, by Essential Quality, was bought for $150,000 by Marquee Bloodstock at the 2025 OBS April Sale, from the Hidden Brook consignment, after a :10 flat breeze. He is trained by Gustavo Delgado. The Puma is Kentucky-bred. His Ocala connection is the OBS sale ring.

Eight other OBS graduates won stakes races on September 18-19, including Stradale in the Gallant Bob (G2) and Reagan's Flame in the Presque Isle Downs Masters (G2).

Why It Matters in Ocala

OBS is the main public marketplace for Ocala's Thoroughbred industry and a big part of why Marion County calls itself the Horse Capital of the World. Its sales bring buyers, trainers and pinhookers to Marion County farms, hotels and restaurants throughout the year. The October sale is smaller and less expensive than the spring 2-year-old sales. For many local breeders, it is one of the last chances to sell a yearling this year. Buyers who "pinhook" these yearlings often bring them back to OBS the next spring as 2-year-olds.
