OBS October Yearling Sale 2026: 438 Yearlings Go Through the Ocala Ring Oct. 6-7

Ocala Breeders' Sales holds its 2026 October Yearling Sale on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 6-7, at noon ET. With 60 supplements added, 438 yearlings are cataloged at the OBS pavilion on SW 60th Avenue.

The last thoroughbred auction of the year at Ocala Breeders' Sales opens on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The OBS October Yearling Sale runs two sessions, Oct. 6 and Oct. 7, each starting at noon ET at the OBS sales pavilion, 1701 SW 60th Avenue, Ocala. It is the yearling market's closing chapter in the place that calls itself the Ocala horse country, and pinhookers often buy here to resell the same horses on the OBS grounds the next spring as 2-year-olds in training.

The 2026 Catalog by the Numbers
OBS published the catalog on Sept. 3 with 378 horses, 177 of them Florida-breds. On Sept. 29 it added 60 supplemental entries, bringing the book to 438 yearlings.
- Tuesday, Oct. 6, noon ET: Hips 1-189, plus supplements Hips 190-224
- Wednesday, Oct. 7, noon ET: Hips 251-439, plus supplements Hips 440-464
The catalog includes yearlings by established sires such as Authentic, Blame, City of Light, Hard Spun, Munnings, Practical Joke, Tiz the Law, Uncle Mo and War Front. This is also the first crop of yearlings for a group of young stallions, among them Jack Christopher, Jackie's Warrior, Mage, Mandaloun, Cyberknife and Speaker's Corner. The supplements add yearlings by Arcangelo, Bolt d'Oro, Elite Power, Epicenter, Liam's Map, Mo Donegal, Omaha Beach and Zandon, among others.
The Graduates on the Cover
OBS put a champion sprinter on the front of the book. Bentornato, winner of the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Sprint in 2025, went through the OBS October sale as a yearling in 2022 and was bought for $170,000 at the 2023 OBS March sale after breezing an eighth of a mile in 20 4/5 seconds. The back cover features two more October graduates: Mystic Lake, a millionaire and 2024 Florida-Bred Horse of the Year, and Trikari, winner of the 2024 Grade 1 Belmont Derby.
OBS-sold horses keep winning this fall. On Sept. 19, The Puma won the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at Parx Racing, a half-length ahead of another OBS graduate, Further Ado; he sold for $150,000 at the 2025 OBS April sale. On Sept. 26, Forged Steel won the Grade 1 Goodwood Stakes at Santa Anita, earning a spot in the $7 million Breeders' Cup Classic on Oct. 31. He sold for $190,000 at the 2024 OBS March sale.
What Happened Last Year
The 2025 October sale posted gains across every key figure, according to OBS:
- Gross: $7,267,700 for 309 horses sold, up from $5,724,600 for 297 in 2024 (a year Hurricane Milton disrupted)
- Average: $23,520, up from $19,275
- Median: $15,000, up from $10,000
- Not sold: 25.5%, down from 36.3%
- Top price: $240,000 for Hip 177, a Mo Donegal filly named Expectations, consigned by Kaizen Sales
The 2025 sale had 507 yearlings cataloged, so this year's book is smaller. The 2026 juvenile sales were strong: the OBS June sale set records for gross and average and sold a Justify filly for a June-record $1.4 million.
