The Marion County Sheriff's Office and the National Weather Service host a free Skywarn weather spotter workshop on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the MCSO Emergency Operations Center, 698 NW 30th Ave., Ocala. The two-hour session covers how thunderstorms develop, how to identify storm structure, the signs of severe weather, how to report what spotters see, and basic storm safety. Graduates join the volunteer network of amateur weather spotters that feeds reports to the National Weather Service. Registration is required through Alert Marion, and the sheriff's office notes that seminars fill quickly.
