Is Trash Picked Up on Thanksgiving in Ocala?

Not on Thanksgiving Day. The City of Ocala's 2026 Residential Sanitation Holiday and Amnesty Day Schedule lists residential sanitation as closed on Thursday, Nov. 26, and says Thursday's collection will be on Friday, Nov. 27. On Friday the sanitation office is closed, but crews still run the Thursday routes.

The schedule lists two numbers. The 24-hour Sanitation Information Hotline is (352) 351-6698, and residential sanitation and recycling questions go to (352) 351-6697, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The city sanitation office is at 2100 NE 30th Ave., Building 200, according to the city's residential sanitation page.

The Marion County Tax Collector's calendar also lists Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, and the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 27, as holidays. The same calendar notes that property owners receive a 4% discount on payments made by Nov. 30. Nov. 30 falls on the Monday after the holiday. The U.S. Postal Service's holidays and events page lists Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, among its 2026 holidays, which the Postal Service describes as days with no mail service. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management's federal holiday schedule lists Thursday, Nov. 26, as a federal holiday. Friday, Nov. 27, is not on the OPM list.
