HCA Florida Building a $17 Million Freestanding ER on SR 200 Near On Top of the World, Opening Spring 2027

HCA Florida Healthcare is building a freestanding emergency room at 8231 SW State Road 200 in southwest Ocala, next to the entrance of the On Top of the World community and the Canopy Oak Center. The 11,000-square-foot ER is scheduled to open in spring 2027, according to HCA's Aug. 21, 2026 newsroom update, which puts the cost at $17 million.

That figure is higher than the one HCA gave at the groundbreaking. HCA's May 29 announcement described a $15 million facility. HCA did not explain the change.

What the ER Will Have

HCA says the ER will be full-service and fully staffed, employing 45 full-time healthcare professionals, including emergency physicians and nurses, with the same capabilities as the emergency departments at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital and HCA Florida West Marion Hospital. The May announcement lists 11 emergency exam rooms, CT scanning, general X-ray and an on-site laboratory, and says the facility will care for patients of all ages, including children. Both HCA releases say the building will be accessible by golf cart.

A New Name Along the Way

HCA called the project HCA Florida Canopy Oak Emergency when it broke ground on May 27. The August update refers to it as HCA Florida ER. HCA has not said which name will be on the building when it opens.

From Groundbreaking to Beam-Signing

At the May 27 groundbreaking, Isaiah Zirkle, chief executive officer of HCA Florida West Marion Hospital, said the company saw a need for a new access point in one of Marion County's fastest-growing areas and that the ER would reduce travel time for residents there. On Aug. 21, colleagues from both HCA hospitals and members of the hospitals' board of trustees signed a beam at the site with representatives of CPPI, the Gainesville-based construction firm building the ER. HCA describes a beam-signing as a ceremony marking the placement of the final or highest structural beam.

At the beam-signing, Zirkle called it the company's sixth freestanding emergency room in the Ocala and Marion County community. The May announcement put it as the sixth HCA has opened in Marion and Sumter counties.
