World Equestrian Center is about to nearly double the shopping at its Ocala resort. The Shoppes Off 80th, an outdoor shopping district under construction next to The Riding Academy Hotel and The Equestrian Manor, will have 32 new storefronts. In an Aug. 27 announcement, WEC said construction is continuing and the center is expected to open later this year. No opening date has been posted.

The First Named Stores

WEC will run several of the new shops itself. According to its Shoppes Off 80th page, the WEC-owned concepts are:

  • Harry & Henry's: a wine shop with fine wines, specialty spirits, and a cellar and lounge.

  • Thoroughbreds: a lifestyle boutique with apparel, footwear, accessories and gifts for men, women and children.

  • Thoroughbreds Denim & Co.: a premium denim store.

  • Mr. Pickles & Sailor Bear Toy Shoppe: a second, larger location of the WEC toy store, with private-label toys and interactive experiences.

Equine Instincts, a fine art gallery and artist collective focused on horses, says its main gallery will be in The Shoppes Off 80th. It has a pop-up shop in the lobby of Arena 2 in the meantime. WEC says other tenants will include fine jewelry stores, equestrian-inspired art, floral design and Pilates classes.

How Big Is WEC Retail Now?

WEC says the resort already has nearly 30 permanent retailers and almost 100 seasonal vendors. For the stores open today, from the general store to tack shops and the current Mr. Pickles, see our guide to shops at World Equestrian Center. Leasing for the remaining storefronts is handled by Cushman & Wakefield.

Visiting WEC This Season

WEC charges no admission to watch its horse shows, and the resort is busy through the end of the year. The November and December show season includes the Ocala Food & Wine Festival (Nov. 6-8), the WEC Vaulting Premiere (Nov. 26-29) and WEC Winter Wonderland (Nov. 27-Dec. 23). For more, see the World Equestrian Center guide, WEC dining and our Ocala shopping guide. We will update this article when WEC announces an opening date.
