Ocala Shooting Range Guide: Gun and Rifle Ranges

Which Ocala shooting range is right for you?
For public shooting in Ocala, the free FWC Ocala Shooting Range in the Ocala National Forest has a 100-yard rifle and handgun range, while R&D Tactical Solutions on NE 16th Street is an indoor handgun range at $20 per lane hour. The Ocala Sportsman's Association is members-only, and Shooters World in The Villages rents guns.
Marion County has three working shooting ranges, and they serve different shooters. The FWC range suits experienced rifle shooters who want distance and do not need staff. The indoor range on NE 16th Street suits handgun practice, concealed carry classes and shooters as young as 12 with a parent. The Sportsman's Association is a club for people who want a home range. Nobody in the county runs a sporting clays or trap and skeet course, and none of the three lists gun rentals, so first-timers who want to try a rental usually drive to The Villages or Micanopy.

Ocala Shooting Range (FWC)
Ocala National Forest · Outdoor, unsupervised
Address and hours
The range sits on Forest Road 11, north of State Road 40 in the Ocala National Forest, east of Silver Springs. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) runs it under a U.S. Forest Service permit. It is open daily from sunrise to sunset, except Wednesdays, when it is closed until 2 PM for maintenance. FWC posts occasional full-day maintenance closures on the range page, and the range is open to the public when hunter safety classes are not in session.
What you can shoot
A 12-position, 100-yard rifle and handgun range and one single-station shotgun pad. The shotgun pad is self-service: shooters bring their own clay targets and thrower. Target frames and backboards are provided; shooters bring their own paper targets and tacks or staples.
Rentals and fees
Use of the range is free. It is an unsupervised facility with no staff, so there are no firearm rentals, ammunition sales or range officers. Potable water is not available, according to the Forest Service.
Rules and safety
FWC range rules require eye and ear protection, prohibit tracer, armor-piercing and incendiary ammunition, and ban food, drinks and smoking on the firing line. When others are waiting, each shooter is limited to one hour. Because no one is supervising, shooters coordinate cease-fires among themselves before going downrange.
Good for beginners?
Best for shooters who already know how to run a cold range on their own. There is no range officer or instruction on site. First-timers will be more comfortable at a staffed indoor range or in a class before coming here.
R&D Tactical Solutions Gun Range
Northeast Ocala · Indoor, 12 lanes
Address and hours
The range, which uses the web address ocalagunrange.com, is at 1031 NE 16th St in northeast Ocala, phone (352) 622-7468. Its Google listing shows Monday through Friday 10 AM to 6:30 PM and weekends 10 AM to 4:30 PM; the range's own site lists later closing times, so call ahead late in the day.
What you can shoot
This is an indoor pistol range with 12 lanes and automatic target retrieval. Handguns and pistol-caliber rifles are allowed up to .44 Magnum, and the range's FAQ says rifles are not allowed at this time. It does not list its lane length.
Rentals and fees
No membership is required. A lane costs $20 per hour, one additional shooter is $10 per hour, and the limit is two people per lane. Memberships are $239 for 12 months, $350 for 24 months and $1,750 for lifetime. The range sells range ammunition and targets and handles firearm transfers as an FFL; gun rentals are not listed on its site.
Rules and safety
The minimum age is 12, and shooters under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian with them in the shooting stall. Call the range about its current ID and eye and ear protection policies before a first visit.
Good for beginners?
Yes, for handgun shooters. The range lists Florida concealed carry classes, NRA Basic Pistol and NRA Personal Protection, and offers introductory safety classes for small groups on request. It also runs bowling-pin shoots on the first and third Wednesdays at 6:30 PM.
Ocala Sportsman's Association
Southeast Ocala, near Candler · Outdoor, 27 covered positions; members only
Address and hours
The club is at 20 Locust Track, about a mile east of Candler just north of Maricamp Road (CR 464). It is open Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 1 to 5 PM. Thursdays are reserved for specialized training and maintenance, and the range is closed whenever no certified range safety officer is on site.
What you can shoot
There are 27 covered firing positions. The pistol range has targets at 7, 10, 15, 25 and 50 yards and allows all handguns plus .22 rimfire and pistol-caliber rifles. Rifle calibers other than .50 BMG go on the separate rifle range. Shotguns are not allowed except at special events, and the club is a paper-target facility with steel in designated areas.
Rentals and fees
This is a private club, not a public range: only members in good standing and guests accompanied by a member may shoot. There are no rentals. The club's operating manual (revised February 2025) lists a $50 initiation fee, $175 a year for a principal member, $30 for an associate member and a $10 guest fee, waived for active military, law enforcement and first responders.
Rules and safety
Eye and ear protection are required on the firing line, members wear their badge at all times, and every guest signs a waiver and the range rules on each visit. Firearms must arrive unloaded and cased. Joining requires NRA membership, board approval and an orientation, held the first Sunday of the month at 10:30 AM, with a live-fire portion.
Good for beginners?
For people who plan to shoot regularly and want a club. The orientation and range-officer system suit new members, but there is no walk-in option, so a first-time shooter needs a member to bring them as a guest.
These two ranges are not in Ocala, but they are the nearest staffed ranges that rent guns.
Shooters World, The Villages
The Villages (Sumter County) · Indoor, 39 lanes (15, 25 and 100 yards)
Why Ocala shooters go here
It is the closest indoor range with 100-yard lanes and a large rental counter. The 39 lanes are split into 20 at 15 yards, 10 at 25 yards and 9 at 100 yards. Rifles under .50 caliber are allowed, and shotguns only with slugs.
Rentals, fees and rules
Lanes are $20 an hour at 15 and 25 yards and $30 an hour at 50 and 100 yards, plus $10 or $15 per extra shooter and a $10 annual shooter card. Eye protection rents for $2 and ear protection for $3 ($5 electronic). Every shooter signs a waiver and shows a state- or country-issued ID; eye and ear protection are mandatory and reloaded ammunition is not allowed.
Harry Beckwith Guns & Range
Micanopy (Alachua County) · Indoor, 10 lanes, 25 yards
Why Ocala shooters go here
It is a staffed indoor pistol range on US 441 north of Ocala with gun rentals and classes. The 25-yard range has 10 lanes with electronic target returns and takes pistols up to .44 Magnum and pistol-caliber long guns.
Rentals, fees and rules
Non-members pay $18, with $15 for each additional shooter and up to three per lane. Most rentals are $15 plus ammunition, and renters must be 21. Reloaded and steel-case ammunition are not allowed (the range charges a $65 cleanup fee), and shooters under 18 must share the lane with a parent or guardian.
First time at a gun range? What to know
ID: bring a government-issued photo ID. Shooters World requires one along with a signed waiver; the Ocala Sportsman's Association has every guest sign a waiver and the range rules on each visit.
Eye and ear protection: required at the FWC range, the Sportsman's Association and Shooters World, which rents both ($2 eye, $3 ear). Bring your own to the FWC range, which has no staff.
Ammunition: each range sets its own limits. The FWC range bans tracer, armor-piercing and incendiary rounds; Shooters World and Harry Beckwith do not allow reloads, and Harry Beckwith also bans steel-case ammunition.
Safety briefing and lessons: the Sportsman's Association requires an orientation with live fire before membership. R&D Tactical Solutions lists NRA Basic Pistol, NRA Personal Protection and Florida concealed carry classes, and small-group intro safety classes on request; Harry Beckwith and Shooters World also list training.
Treat every firearm as if it is loaded
Even when you believe a firearm is unloaded, handle it as if it were loaded and check its condition every time you pick it up.
Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction
On a range that means downrange at all times, including while loading, unloading and moving to or from the bench.
Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire
Rest your trigger finger along the frame, outside the trigger guard, until your sights are on target.
Know your target and what is beyond it
Shoot only at your own target frame and be aware of the backstop behind it.
Wear eye and ear protection
Required at the FWC range, the Ocala Sportsman's Association and Shooters World. Gunfire can cause permanent hearing damage, and brass and fragments can injure unprotected eyes.
Follow cease-fire calls immediately
Stop shooting, unload, and step back from the line. At the unsupervised FWC range, shooters call cease-fires among themselves before anyone goes downrange.

Can you target shoot in the Ocala National Forest?
The designated place to target shoot in the Ocala National Forest is the FWC Ocala Shooting Range on Forest Road 11. Outside the range, Forest Service rules nationwide prohibit shooting within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation area or occupied area, and across or on a forest road or body of water.
Much of the forest is also the FWC-managed Ocala Wildlife Management Area, which has its own firearm rules on top of the Forest Service's. Before shooting anywhere other than the range, check the current Ocala WMA regulations with FWC and any alerts from the National Forests in Florida, which list Stage 1 fire restrictions in effect since March 2026.
Earlier versions of this page said dispersed target shooting was generally allowed anywhere in the forest. That was too broad; use the FWC range unless you have confirmed the rules for a specific spot.
Florida concealed weapon license (CWL)
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) issues concealed weapon licenses. The license is valid for seven years, and FDACS has 90 days from receipt of a complete application to issue or deny it. Tax collector offices that accept applications may add up to $22 for a new application and $12 for a renewal.
Requirements and fees
- Be at least 18 years old (FDACS policy since the June 17, 2026 Eubanks v. Florida ruling)
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
- Submit proof of firearm proficiency from an accepted training course
- Submit fingerprints and a photograph with the application
- Meet the other eligibility requirements in section 790.06, Florida Statutes
- Fees: $97 for a new resident license, $45 to renew
