Thursday, August 27

Storytime Science at the Discovery Center

Storytime Science runs Thursday morning at 10:30 AM at the Discovery Center, 701 NE Sanchez Avenue in Tuscawilla Park. The City of Ocala program pairs a read-aloud with a hands-on experiment built around the same idea, aimed at preschool and early-elementary kids. It is free to attend, and it is an easy weekday reset before the weekend gets loud. More options like it are in our guide to fun things for kids in Ocala.

Friday, August 28

Rock The Country 2026, Night One: Brooks & Dunn

Rock The Country returns to the Florida Horse Park at 11008 S Highway 475 for a two-day run, and Friday belongs to Brooks & Dunn. Lauren Alaina and Shenandoah are among the supporting acts across the weekend. Gates open in the afternoon both days; exact gate and set times are posted on the festival's ticket page. General admission and VIP tickets are sold through frontgatetickets.com.

This is the largest event on the Ocala calendar this weekend by a wide margin, and the Horse Park sits south of town off SE Highway 475 — build in extra time for traffic and parking on both nights. See more upcoming shows on our Ocala concerts and music festivals page.

Propeller: A Film by John Travolta

The Marion Theatre at 50 S Magnolia Avenue in downtown Ocala screens Propeller, John Travolta's directorial debut, on Friday, August 28 at 7:30 PM. The screening is free. Travolta has lived in Marion County for decades, and a free hometown screening of his first film as a director is the kind of night the Marion Theatre exists for. The theater is operated by the Reilly Arts Center; seating is limited, so arrive early.

Saturday, August 29

Saturday is the crowded day — a free kids race in the morning, the farmers market through midday, and four separate ticketed shows at night.

Ocala Kids Run, 8:30 AM

The Ocala Kids Run steps off at 8:30 AM from the Baseline Road Trailhead on the Cross Florida Greenway, at 4255 SE 58th Avenue. It is a free one-mile fun run for young runners, hosted by Run Ocala on flat paved trail with free parking at the trailhead. Register through RunSignUp. If you have older runners in the house, our Ocala running guide covers the rest of the local race calendar.

Ocala Downtown Market, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

The Ocala Downtown Market runs Saturday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the open-air pavilion, 310 SE 3rd Street. Admission is free. More than 80 vendors set up weekly, rain or shine, with late-summer produce, pasture-raised meats, seafood, baked goods, and local makers. The pavilion has ceiling fans, a playground, and a permanent coffee stand, and it sits a short walk from the Citizens' Circle splash pad — which makes it a workable morning with kids after the fun run. See our full Ocala Downtown Market guide and our roundup of farmers markets in Ocala.

Rock The Country 2026, Night Two: Blake Shelton

Blake Shelton headlines Saturday at the Florida Horse Park, closing out the festival's Ocala stop. Same venue, same afternoon gates, same ticket page. If you are only going one night, this is the bigger headline draw.

Forever Donna featuring Rainere Martin, 7:00 PM

Forever Donna brings Rainere Martin through Donna Summer's disco catalog at the Circle Square Cultural Center, 8395 SW 80th Street, on Saturday at 7:00 PM with doors at 6:00 PM. Ticket pricing is set by the venue; check the Circle Square box office for current availability.

In the Air Tonight: A Phil Collins & Genesis Tribute, 7:30 PM

The Reilly Arts Center at 500 NE 9th Street hosts In the Air Tonight on Saturday at 7:30 PM. The show works through Phil Collins' solo run and his years fronting Genesis — the anthems and the drum fills, live. Tickets are available through the Reilly box office and website. It is one of the better date night options on the board this weekend, and more shows are listed on our live music in Ocala page.

Sunday, August 30

Jamie Lissow: The Better Off Dad Comedy Tour, 7:30 PM

Comedian Jamie Lissow closes the weekend at the Reilly Arts Center on Sunday, August 30 at 7:30 PM. A regular on Gutfeld! and a stand-up writer with his own specials, Lissow works a self-deprecating family-humor lane on the Better Off Dad Tour. Tickets are through the Reilly Arts Center. For the rest of the local lineup, see comedy shows in Ocala.

The Free Options

Three things on this list cost nothing: Storytime Science on Thursday morning, the Propeller screening Friday night, and the Ocala Kids Run Saturday morning. Admission to the Ocala Downtown Market is also free — you only spend if you buy something. That is a full weekend without a ticket if you want one. More ideas are in our guide to free things to do in Ocala.

Planning Notes

Late August in Marion County means highs near 92 degrees and a real chance of afternoon and early-evening thunderstorms. That matters most for the two outdoor events: Rock The Country at the Horse Park and the Saturday morning market and fun run. Bring water, plan for sun, and check the forecast before an outdoor evening set.
